Public Policy Committee

The Public Policy Committee is very active and encourages both MCAE board members and general members to join. The Committee examines, contributes to, and advocates for legislation and budgets related to adult basic education on the state and federal level. Whenever possible, the Committee works in collaboration with other organizations with similar concerns. A major role of the Committee is to keep people informed about adult basic education issues, particularly ABE practitioners, ABE students, and policymakers. Examples of Public Policy committee activities include:

  •  Organizing legislative briefings
  •  Training practitioners on advocacy
  •  Encouraging programs to invite elected officials to visit them
  •  Testifying before legislative committees
  •  Informing ABE programs about public policy issues
  •  Representing MCAE on external committees or task forces
  •  Conducting meetings and surveys of the membership to find out which  issues are most important to them
